Day 10 - moving to Lucern

I’ve enjoyed having Bern as a home base. Everything I’ve wanted to see has been less than 2 hours away. Food has been good and reasonably priced. It’s been surprising to see how the town has been French-light.

Onward. An hour northeast towards Luzern.

After a short train ride we’re here and instantly things are noticably different. Things look and feel German.

There is still the decorative water but more difficult to access

Pretty churches

That is some amazing solid marble dating back to 1650

Notice the bottom of the alter?

Yup, that’s some sort of prince

Of course the most noticable feature to the town is the Church Bridge.

Live flower boxes line the length of the bridge

A story is depicted at each strand

Chocolate, of course, but most items are chocolate based-items

What is up with the windows?

Imagine an hour+ service in these pews

Pretty cemetery behind the church

First time I’ve seen skeletons as part of a tomb marker

The pretty lake. Surprisingly not too cold

Luzern is quite small. Much smaller than expected yet more than 3x larger than Interlocken.

9pm

That’s one way to record your family genealogy

Lovely stiarcase

People will float down the river to cool down

The town is smart. The river is very strong. Why not capture some of that energy into electricity. The below play space are two turbines that power the entire city.

That’s all to the turbine

Locals at play under the evening sky…

Hotel check-in. Something feels very wrong. Warning sign #1 – the hotel gives actual keys to open rooms. This is the actual key wall.

How am I suppose to put this in my pocket?

No central air and it’s only 88 degrees with 40% humidity.

At $280 a night I’m staying at a “cheap” hotel. I can’t handle a repeat of France. Time to check-out and find a new hotel with AC (not an easy thing to do). After many hotels later I find this boutique hotel.

My ceiling

Tomorrow’s plans are not looking good right now. Rain and intense thunderstorms are expected tonight and into tomorrow. Must remain flexible…
