JFK is not exactly Belgium but let’s make the most of this day. A lot of people will book the TWA hotel as part of their visit to NYC. Why not act the part of a tourist. After all, my flight has moved from 10am until 7:30pm. Must have been a big problem. We’ll learn soon enough if it was a full plane replacement.
It’s ironic flying today. Today is the 25th anniversary of 9/11. I had intentionally picked a flight departing on the 10th just so I wouldn’t risk fate flying today. Instead, I find myself waking up, looking at the airport from my hotel room.

What makes this hotel very famous, other than it being feet away from the Jetblue terminal, is the rooftop pool. Let’s go see what it’s all about. If you stay here you can enjoy it for free. Visiting between long layovers and you’re paying $50 a person.

Not a bad view. If you were on a 4-6 hour layover I could see paying the cover fee to enjoy this for the day. Water is heated to 82 year round. And yes, towels are provided.

A quick look to the left and you see both the NYC skyline as well as the entrance to the hotel and their TWA waiting passengers for the next flight to somewhere magical.

Ok, enough time playing in the water. A quick stroll back through the hotel departure lounge, a glance at the departure board and it’s time to head back to the airport.
It hits me as I leave this converted airport lounge I wonder if my aunt and grandmother came through here back in the day? My aunt use to work for an airline and the two of them traveled often together to the UK. Surely they came though here.
