Day 8b - at sea (Great Belt Bridge)

Although nothing usually happens on sea days tonight we got to sail under the Great Belt Bridge of Denmark. This is the sixth longest suspension bridge at almost 1600 feet at it’s greatest stretch. Opening in 1998 it costs the traveler $40 each way to use which sounds like a lot but when built the structure cost nearly $6 billion in 2023 dollars.

Going under the bridge you swear you’ll hit it. Thankfully we cleared it by roughly 40 feet (though it feels much closer).

The blue line above represents where we’ve been. The red circle shows our current position at 10pm
The span we go under is on the left of this photo

While not our vessel the below video shows how close ships come to hitting it each sailing.
