Day 6 - Palermo

Home of what was the original Italian mafia, Palermo is a city rich with history, stunning beauty, delicious food and stunning views.

The local opera house (1897)

One of the original ticket booths

Leave the main city and head up to the nearby mountains to see real history.

That’s not paint. Every inch is a mosaic.

The detail of the mosaic can’t be fully captured in these photos

Here the walls tell stories of Muslim and Catholic stories of Jesus

The stories share many similarities but do have some minor differences

This church for some reason was very curious to me

Back to the main city to take on more of the sights.

One of the original fortified walls, the “Giants”

Time to get off the main tourist loop and into the sketchier streets and venues.

There’s a special energy in the 4 Corners (I Quattro Canti)

At first it’s intimidating walking these streets

But soon after you feel comforted, embraced by the history and energy coming from the buildings

Don’t get me wrong. You need to watch your pockets. There are some rough areas.

But those areas are hidden gems which date back to 1000.

A bit more walking back streets to locate gem most tourists won’t find.

Just enough time to head to the sea for a quick meal.

Someone left a straightener on in their room
